Analogue Cameras

This is something that started almost by accident, but to my own surprise I'm pretty good at it: selling analogue cameras (or camera collections) on Ebay. When this takes off properly I'm thinking of adding a 'shop' section to this site, but for the moment I'll stick to Ebay and PayPal.

What happens is that people find an old analogue camera in the loft or a drawer, or they inherit an entire collection and they don't know what to do with it. Whatever you do: DON'T BIN IT! Despite what everybody says, film is not dead, it's alive and kicking. So, you can either donate the camera to me and I'll make sure it will get used again (if at all possible), or I'll sell it for you.

What I do is:

assess whether the camera is still usable or should be sold for spares-repair-display
if it's usable I put at least one roll through it and make notes of what is and what isn't working
develop the images, scan them and put them online as proof that the camera still is working and as an example of what to expect from the camera
take high quality digital photographs of the camera, highlighting any defects
write an honest description, again highlighting what's wrong with the camera. In my experience bidders know quite well what the camera is capable of and their only worry is what's wrong with it. Better to be honest and show, than to hope they won't notice and receive bad feedback
pack the camera really well and ship it the day following cleared payment

For all of this I ask a 20% commission, that's 20% of what's left after Ebay and PayPal have had their cut. Sometimes, if I like what I see, I may make an offer to buy it myself. Feel free to check up on my auctions and profile on Ebay
